The Day the Music Died

GYBO v3.0 - Neither a Beginning or an Ending

On Monday 13th December 2004, Get Your Bootleg On (the Proboards version - hereby known as v2.0) disappeared without reason. Most presumed it was because of the grey area that the board occupies. Some even went as far as to hatch conspiracy theories which were consequently proved baseless.

Even though the board was to reappear equally swiftly (and without explanation) some 24 hours later, the whole episode raised many questions concerning the future of GYBO. V2.0 has survived for almost 3 years on Proboards without so much as a blink of an eyelid, with over 7,500 members and 192,000+ posts, and yet it is due to the sheer mass of information held on GYBO that we should not be complacent about it's existence and fate.

Proboards has been a wonderful home. It is the undisputed central hub of internet activity for bootleggers. And yet it is severly flawed. There is no way to back-up the information on GYBO. If it's shut down, then it's gone for good. (We had a taste of that yesterday - it sucked). The board is dated - the calender is not practically maintainable, you can't modify posts per page, and perhaps most restricting - it's on someone else's server. If there were plans to expand GYBO to a website as well as a forum, then it would make it possible to interact with the forum a lot easier if it was contained on the same server.

And that's the plan for v3.0. The internal server errors are gone. The colour scheme is sorted. It'll take some getting used to, but that's life. The old GYBO will remain open to read, but not to post.

When will this change happen? Soon, very soon.
