House stuff must be getting to me - I'm reduced to firing off emails about bloody fake tan FFS.
Having recently been pointed in the direction of your "get beach beautiful" campaign, I find some of the messages grossly offensive. In particular, under Step 2 - Glow, I think the statement "Let's face it, pale is not interesting in the summer" is frankly moronic.
Obviously, no one should covet a smidgen of originality, and should instead endeavour to look orange, streaky, or a smashing combination of both.
I don't believe I have ever seen anyone look good with a fake tan, they can't replicate the depth and tone of colour created by a real tan - and of course, we all know how sexy skin cancer is.
Some people are naturally pale, myself included. I spent my teenage years trying to cultivate a tan, and personally believe that my beetroot look phase was *hot*.
By the grand old age of 23 I've decided to embrace my pale legs et al - fake tan just makes me look like I need a bloody good wash. But oh no, accepting myself for who I am obviously makes me a boring and sad individual.* I'd be much better off being a hip and happening orange clone instead!
I have learnt the error of my ways - what I needed was a website to show me where I've been going wrong all these years! Damn me and my self acceptance - stupid, stupid girl! Thank you Boots!
In the past, pale skin was considered the height of attractiveness, because it indicated that the person was rich enough not to spend their days outside working under the burning sun. Now, the work takes place inside, and the rich have oodles of time to lay outside turning crispy, or getting their minions to apply a non-crap fake tan. So when people slather on fake tan is it basically a cry of "I'm lazy; love me!"?
*n.b. - it is the being pale bit that makes me sad and boring - writing emails to faceless corporations has no impact on my credibility whatsoever. It's all about my skin tone.
