I work all night, I work all day

Technically, the title isn't strictly true - teachers are blessed with long periods of holiday (albeit when the kids are on holiday too, so naturally anywhere nice to visit is crammed with them). Unfortunately, supply teachers do not get paid whilst on holiday. This of course is a shame, because if they did, I might have finally achieved my aim of doing nothing and getting buckets of cash for it.

To quote Oscar Wilde, "I happen to be more than usually hard up." Although this is not strictly true; in an un-Archduchess-like moment of brilliance, I managed to stash away a fair bit of dosh whilst I was qualifying. But to return to usual form, I haven't proven to be very good at getting it from savings to current account without a gap in which funds are tight. My behaviour becomes erratic and my mood sullen. Why? Money cannot buy you happiness. I don't even spend an awful lot of it. I just feel happier knowing it's there.
Why does modern life hinge on the pursuit of material pleasures? Do we not get the same happiness from doing something that costs nothing?
I intend to make a concerted effort to find joy in things that cost nothing or very little, and I suggest you do the same. Camp out in your back garden, go for a walk somewhere pretty, do something arty with things you have lying around the house.
Not only will you have found something pleasurable to do, but you will get an added glow from saving the money you might have spent otherwise.

Hex and the City was brought to you by the letters; B, L, O, G.. er, you get the picture...
