It's all elemental my dear

Maybe I'm a bad witch, but I'v always viewed air as a weak element. Look at the associations we make; airy fairy, air head, I mean, for goodness' sake, many books tell you to represent air on your altar with a feather. OK, so feathers are great for birds, no doubt, but the word always conjures up images for me of the maribou trimmed accessories favoured by 12 year old girls; Fluffy, floaty, useless!
Perhaps if I lived somewhere where wind did more spectacular things, I'd be more impressed. We don't get tornadoes, hurricanes or any other kind of strong or twisty wind around my neck of the woods. It occasionally removes something from the side of my house and conveniently deposits it in my garden for increased accessibility, or allows me to enjoy a permanently spiky, unalterable frizzed up hairstyle without the need for one and a half cans of hairspray. These attributes however are not really awe-inspiring; selfishly, I would say they are merely irritating and nothing more.

I hold my hand up. I was wrong. Air is one big bad bitch of an element, in the best possible way.

My head is in the clouds. I have never felt such a strong connection to any element. From the ground I have never really been able to recognise the swirls and changing directions of the air's currents, but when my kite is in the air, my mind is up their with it, and the pull of the wind on the foil makes every muscle in my body work hard; it's an intense connection.

You will never harness the wind, or any element for that matter, but if you are lucky it might let you share parts of the journey.

Hex and the City was brought to you by the letters; B, L, O, G.. er, you get the picture...
